The House
of Representatives on Tuesday rejected the five years validity of the
e-Passport as they sought the reversal to 10 years as was the case before.
The
new e-Passport which has no option of a renewal after expiration, is valid for
only five years and compels holders to process a new one.
The
House noted that in the pre-e-Passport era, the travelling document had a
validity of five years in the first instance and could be renewed for another
five years.
The Honorable
Members called on the NIS to “initiate measures aimed at reverting to the 10-year
lifespan policy for the Nigerian Passport.”
