PDP Crisis: Sheriff Insists Rule Of Law Must Prevail

The disputed National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Ali Modu Sheriff, has said that the rule of law must prevail for the party’s crisis to be resolved.

Sheriff made the statement when he received some members of PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) Reconciliation Committee, led by Prof. Jerry Gana, in Abuja on Tuesday night.

According to him, the crisis continues to linger because leaders in the party are not alive to their responsibilities and keep perpetuating it.

“I am ready to listen at any time to the committee but for the crisis to be fully resolved, the rule of law must be followed. The moment we want to use one impunity to address another, it will not work.

“If our leaders had taken their responsibilities, we would never have had most of the problems we are facing today.

“When a leader refuses to stand up to his responsibilities, there will be a problem.

“Why am I saying this? Some of our leaders are party to our problems,” Sheriff said.

Briefing newsmen after a closed-door session, Sheriff commended the efforts of the BoT toward reconciling feuding parties and affirmed his availability now that the BoT was now better informed on the crisis.

“All that was discussed today were the problems. They will go back to the BoT that sent them.

“I am sure that in the next meeting, they will come back with recommendations that will bring lasting solutions and peace to the party,” Sheriff said.

Earlier, Gana explained that the purpose of the visit was to find lasting solutions to the crisis and make PDP a viable opposition.

“We are here to find out together how PDP can be solid, firm, cohesive and triumphant.

“This is because Nigerians are waiting for PDP, they are missing the PDP, they are crying and yearning for PDP because the 16 years of democracy cannot be wasted away.

“We are here not as a panel, not as a court, not even as an appeal committee but from the BoT as heirs of the family.

“In a family there must be sometimes problems here and there but there must be re-consolidation. Where there are elders people say things don’t go wrong.

“The purpose of our being here is for this party to be strong again and be reunited,’’ Gana said.

Addressing newsmen, Gana described the meeting as fruitful and said the committee had taken note of the problems causing disaffection within the party.

“We are delighted that there have been clear resolutions on the determination and the desire that the problems be resolved, unity be re-established and for PDP to move forward.”

Gana said although the meeting was successful, there would be another session while the committee would meet on Wednesday for further deliberation on issues that were raised.

Ekiti PDP Questions Buhari’s Wife’s ‘US Trip’, Slams APC

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State has described the purported visit of Nigeria's First Lady, Mrs Aisha Buhari to the United States of America (USA) as a ruse, saying; “Even the Presidency has not told anyone that wife of the President travelled to the USA and in official communications, only ignorant and mischief makers in the APC will believe that a trip to the USA will be made by Mrs Buhari and Nigerians will only get to know about it through online media.”

The PDP, lambasting ignorant APC, added that, “it is only in the world of the APC that wife of the President of Nigeria, the most populous black nation in the world would travel to the USA, ostensibly to debunk her involvement in a major scam and no television station will report her departure and arrival. The question is, did she travel to USA or Qatar?”

Mr Jackson Adebayo, the State Publicity Secretary of the PDP, in a statement issued on behalf of the party, said; “If the Presidency has not been bold enough to tell Nigerians that Mrs Aisha Buhari travelled to the USA on official visit, only a party of scammers like the APC will go on the rooftops to celebrate photoshoped pictures as evidence of visit to USA.”

The party said “it is strange that wife of the President of Nigeria could travel to the USA and purportedly attended events there without international television stations like CNN, Al jazeera, BBC, Sky News etc and local stations like Channels TV, NTA, AIT and others reporting it. Or are they still ‘editing’ the video clips?”

While casting doubt at the purported trip, the PDP said: “Even if Mrs Aisha Buhari actually travelled to the USA, does that erase the fact that in the judgment delivered by the United States District Court, Eastern District of Virginia, Alexandria Division, USA, in criminal No 1: 07CR209, that indicted the USA Congressman, Williams Jefferson, it was mentioned that $170,000 was transferred from account in Nigeria in the name of Aisha Buhari to an account in the name of The ANJ Group, LLC, identifying William Jefferson as beneficiary?”

The statement reads further, “As a party of responsible and discerning minds, the PDP in Ekiti State would have elected to ignore the APC and allow the party the freedom to advertise it idiocy. This is more so that the matter is now a subject of litigation and the no one has denied the existence of the judgment that indicted Williams Jefferson and featured conspicuously at page 22, the name of Aisha Buhari as having transferred $170,000 from account in Nigeria to William Jefferson.

“Most importantly, Nigerians have witnessed more heinous forgeries from the APC, one of them being pictorial claim that President Buhari (as APC presidential candidate then) had an interview with Kemi Fadojutimi on ‘All Eyes on Africa’ TV show in London, whereas the interview was held in Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.

“However, it is important to point out that from all evidences, the pictures circulated as arrival of President Buhari’s wife at Dulles International Airport, Washington DC could have been taken at the Doha International Airport, Qatar. Even on the official website of George Mason University and US Institute of Peace, USA where the president’s was said to have attended events, there is nothing to show that she attended any event in the two institutions.

“We have seen pictures of Wife of the Senate President, Toyin Saraki with President Barrack Obama’s wife, Michelle. We also saw pictures of Mrs Patience Jonathan with Michelle Obama when she visited the USA.

Where are Aisha Buhari’s pictures with the First Lady of USA and major government officials from the country? Or could she have arrived and departed from the USA like a spirit?”

“It is even more important that nothing official has been said about the purported trip. Not from the President’s spokespersons.”

PDP Is Gasping For Breath —Obasanjo

His Excellency, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, former Nigeria President,  in a statement, signed by his media aide , Kehinde Akinyemi, and made available to newsmen, denied attending the Peoples Democratic Party , PDP, event at the Shehu Musa Yar’adua Centre, Abuja , saying it was an attempt to drag him back to the party he had left.

While reacting to a photo news which went viral on social media, where he was alleged to have attended a PDP event held in Abuja, Obasanjo said he had left the party when it was alive and bubbling, and, therefore, he could not have rejoined now when the party was divided, factionalised and gasping for breath.

But, Obasanjo, while reacting to the issue in a statement titled “ Photonews story of Obasanjo “spotted“ at PDP event, declared: “Believe it and believe that your mother is not a woman“, maintained that he was invited by the Commodities Association Stakeholders.

The statement read in part: “His conclusion was that he has told the world that he has quit partisan politics and that is final. Anybody hoping to drag him back will fail like any man feeding mice to a dead cat. “Those who know me, know that I have publicly announced my quitting partisan politics and those who will believe the purported story will believe anybody who tells him that his or her mother is not a woman.

“If I quit a party when it was alive and seemingly united, how could I go back to a now divided, factionalised party gasping for breath?

“To clear the minds of doubting Thomases and those behind the orchestrated news in circulation and particularly those who had been calling to ascertain what actually happened at the Shehu Musa Yar’adua centre is explained below.

“On the invitation of the Commodities Association Stakeholders, His Excellency, was invited to the “Zero Hunger Nigeria” event at the Centre. He arrived at about 10.00am and immediately moved to the meeting.

“The meeting commenced but few minutes into the session, his attention was drawn to the presence of some people walking up to where he was seated. At closer glance, he recognised them to be politicians and they exchanged pleasantries, saying they came to greet him and they walked out again from the meeting. “The former President cracked jokes with them calling them “invaders and gate crashers”,

“The programme ended and immediately he and his entourage headed back to Lagos. He was barely hours in Lagos when he started receiving calls from both far and near, wanting to find out about his presence at a political party programme in Abuja.

“The photo news in circulation, which claimed that he was spotted at a political party event is therefore mischievous, as a responsible journalist ought to have gone further to ascertain his actual destination in and among the number of venues at the centre and not taking photograph of his alighting from his vehicle to read another meaning.

“ Shocking, also, is to note that the picture was actually taken while on his way out of the Centre after the programme he had attended had finished.

“This is the height of irresponsible journalism, which the former President is calling for its investigation and sanction on anybody involved in order to serve as deterrent to others who may want to be used, either by omission or commission, to misinform the public on such sensitive issue”, the statement concluded

Why PDP Chairmanship Slot Was Reserved For South-West Zone – Makarfi

Senator Ahmed Makarfi, the Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP) caretaker committee, in his remarks during the inauguration of the convention planning committee of the party in Abuja, defended the decision to reserve the Chairmanship slot for the Southwest zone but explained that it was not intended to short changed anybody.

He said "I recall when we last met here to inaugurate the zoning committee and I mentioned on behalf of the caretaker committee that the convention would be an all-inclusive one and that offices to be contested for would be open to all and sundry, that doesn't mean people cannot come together to zone offices.

"If zoning does not favour you and you still think that you have the best chance of winning, the political landscape is there. It's up to you to campaign across the country to get enough delegates to support you. Zoning doesn't mean you have been excluded, it is meeting of the minds. And it is for every aspirant to assess by himself or herself whether he or she has the capacity to garner more support than.

"Collection of people that come together to have a common position. So, I don't want people to have the impression that they have been excluded from the process. After all democracy is about minority will have their say, majority will have their way. But in PDP, we have the culture of coming together to be one family so that both minority and majority work together for the good of the PDP."

Meanwhile, the gentleman agreement to reserve the Chairmanship position to the South west zone had been violated.
One of the aspirants, Chief Raymond Dokpesi, who had disagreed with the zoning was the first to pick his form at the PDP national secretariat yesterday.

According to him, the zoning was not legally binding on any aspirants.

Recall that a former deputy national chairman of the PDP, Chief Bode George, yesterday picked his form to contest the Chairmanship position.

In an interview shortly after he collected his form, George said his main agenda was to stabilise the party.

He said "It takes an experienced captain to stabilise a ship hit by tornado. And if you know the crisis in PDP, that is the position the party is facing right now. But I am happy that all is not lost, and the condition has been enhanced.

"Zoning has gone extremely well. I have paid my dues in this party and I should not be afraid of anybody. Since 1999, I never left the party to anyone. I met crisis and problem, I have been able to resolve that. I have risen meritoriously from Vice Chairman South West to Deputy Chairman South and Deputy Chairman overall. I have been able to resolve problems.

He added:"If people vote for me, I look forward to stabilise the party and put it in right position. The ruling party should get ready for serious engagement because we have started a cohesive battle ahead 2019.

"So this job requires commitment, determination; it requires justice and fairness. They know me, they know me for that in the secretariat here.

"Trying to come back it is like looking back, we are lucky we got a bloody nose not a technical knockout; we will rise again.

"Everybody will have to come on board even those of our friends who were angry and left for APC they are tenants there because they were landlords in PDP. If we are lucky and we get the right leadership who is fair and just and committed in the party, they will come back."

The party had earlier announced the nomination fees for the various positions available for contest.

The sum of One million naira is to be charged for the position of chairman while N500, 000 will be charged for deputy chairmanship position and national secretary.

Other positions would attract a nomination fee of N300,000.

I Can Stabilise PDP If…- Bode George

Chief Bode George, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), after collecting PDP chairmanship nomination form for N1 million at the party’s temporary secretariat, has said he can stabilise the party if voted to become chairman. He made the remark in Abuja. He said, ''if people vote for me, I look forward to stabilise the party and put it in right position.

"The ruling party should get ready for serious engagement because we have started a cohesive battle ahead of 2019'', George said. According to him, PDP is not down and out. It will rise again. With the right leadership, defectors will sheathe their swords and return. He said although the PDP was undergoing turmoil, he would stabilise it as he said was known for his ability to resolve problems, if he becomes the chairman.

Southern Nigeria PDP Zones National Chairmanship To South West

The position of the National Chairmanship of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, was on Thursday night formally zoned to the South-West geopolitical zone by PDP Southern Leaders.

In a meeting attended by Governors, National Assembly Members and Former Ministers, the Southern Nigeria PDP also zoned the positions of National Treasurer and Deputy National Publicity Secretary to the South West.

The party zoned the position of First Deputy National Chairman to the South-South. The South-South also got the positions of National Legal Adviser, Deputy National Women Leader and Deputy National Auditor.

The South-East got the following positions: National Organising Secretary, National Youth Leader and Deputy National Financial Secretary.

Addressing journalists at the end of the meeting, Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu said despite the zoning of the positions, any party member willing to contest any position was free.

He, however, advised party members from the Southern Nigeria to respect the zoning formula.

I Will Intervene In PDP Crisis- Jonathan

Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, Nigeria's immediate past President, has promised to intervene in resolving the leadership crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Jonathan made the promise on Wednesday in Abuja when the zonal representatives of the PDP Board of Trustees led by its Chairman, Sen.Walid Jubril, paid him a courtesy visit.

He said that although he had been holding consultations with individuals, he would do more to resolve the crisis. He noted that Nigerians expected a vibrant opposition to the ruling party and that PDP must rise to the occasion. "Unfortunately we have challenges, but I think you should not be discouraged. Challenges are part of life, it comes up in homes, religious places what is important is our ability to resolve them.

"This should not be beyond us, but I believe that collectively, we can resolve it. ``Any sincere PDP member should know that PDP is superior to any individual, and that members have sacrificed their interests for the party. Even the nation expects a more vibrant opposition. ``I have been talking to individuals but not in a way that is exposed to media but I believe I should do more,’’ Jonathan said.

The former president, however, regretted the conflicting court orders on the party’s crisis, saying it was "unfortunate that the Nigerian environment is that way to have conflicting court judgements.’’ Jonathan commended members of the board for their commitment to the party and condoled with them on the recent death of their secretary, Chief Ojo Maduekwe.

Speaking earlier, Jubril said that the board decided to pay Jonathan courtesy call in recognition of his former position as former president and to brief him on the present state of the party. "It is sad to note that the party has not less than 15 court cases with verdicts given on some and appeal pending.

"We have realised after our meeting, that there was also need for reconciliation and there were committees set for reconciliations and the reconciliations are ongoing. "We have decided to organise a special reconciliation committee while the process for the convention is going on we want to the reconciliation to go on.

"We want you to come into the reconciliation, we are sure that when you do that, we are going to have a way forward in this matter. ``We have great respect for you in spite of the fact that you have not been appearing in our activities,’’ Jubril said. He said that the board had also embarked on several programmes and visitation to founding fathers of the party to address the crisis.

Makarfi Names PDP National Convention Committee Members [FULL LIST]

Senator Ahmed Makarfi led Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, yesterday announced members that constitute the party’s National Convention Committee.

The Makarfi- led faction of the party also insisted that it will go ahead with its national convention slated for August 17 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State despite a court ruling which declared the Caretaker Committe illegal.

But the Makarfi – led faction in a statement by its secretary, Sen Ben Obi, said the August 17 national convention of the party will hold as slated.

The statement also announced approval of the nomination of the following members to serve on the National Convention Planning Committee.

According to the Makarfi-led faction, the Committees will be inaugurated on Friday in Abuja.

We Only Recognise Makarfi – 29 PDP State Chairmen Disown Sheriff

State chairmen of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in a statement issued by Honourable Yahaya Y. Suleiman, PDP chairman, FCT and chairman of PDP State Chairmen in Abuja, today announced their loyalty to the national caretaker committee of the party, led by Senator Ahmed Makarfi.

Yahaya said their attention has been drawn “to a purported declaration of loyalty and support to the former national chairman of our great party, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff by the Borno State PDP chapter chairman, Hon. Shehu Shettima”.

“I wish to state on behalf of the state chapter chairmen of the PDP in 29 states of the federation that our unflinching and unalloyed loyalty and maximum support remains with the party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Senator Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi’s national caretaker committee.

“Our loyalty is first and foremost to the party and to the national caretaker committee which is a product of the party’s highest decision making organ, the national convention that held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, and also affirmed by the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State on July 4, 2016.

“My position which represents that of 29 out of 30 chairmen of our party in the state where congresses held during the last state congresses is that, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) must first of all survive before we can remain chairmen in our respective states.

“So, our loyalty is first to the PDP and then to the national caretaker committee which is approved, constituted and appointed by the PDP’s national convention; and upheld by a court of competent jurisdiction.”

The chairmen noted that no judgment was given in favour of Senator Sheriff making him the national chairman of the PDP.

“We wish to also remind Nigerians of subsisting court judgments of June 29, 2016 by Justice Valentine Ashi of FCT High Court that nullified the amendments to the PDP Constitution in 2014 which Senator Sheriff claimed produced his predecessor, Amadu Adamu Mu’azu, thereby nullifying Sheriff as national chairman.

“The Judgment of July 4, 2016 which specifically ruled in favour of the PDP national caretaker committee also nullified Senator Sheriff as chairman of the PDP and Justice Okon Abang cannot sit on an appeal to hear the case brought before his court by Senator Sheriff and co when the matter is before a higher court, the Court of Appeal,” the statement concluded.

Buhari Should Not Ask Me Source Of Jonathan’s Money For Media – Dokpesi Explodes

Chief Raymond Dokpesi, the founder of DAAR Communications Plc, who is seeking to become the next National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has reacted angrily to the money laundering charges preferred against him by the federal government.

Dokpesi, who spoke at the weekend, when his campaign train stopped at Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, accused President Muhammadu Buhari of using the same tactics he used in 1983 when as military head of state, he “clamped down on the political class”.

His words: “Many of these politicians were jailed 200 to 300 years by Buhari when he came on board. The same thing is playing out today.

“What I am accused of is like someone questioning a hotelier for accepting money from a lodger. How could a hotelier determine the source of the money he is being paid with.

“How will I know source for media campaign of a party?

“I don’t want to dwell much on the subject. The matter is before a competent court of law. At the appropriate time, I will be vindicated.”

Dokpesi, however, promised to ensure that all interests within the PDP are united.

The High Chief disclosed that if elected, he would review all reports of past reconciliatory committees to stop the worrying issue of factions in the PDP.

He pledged allegiance to the Ahmed Makarfi-led national leadership of the party, assuring Osun party faithful that he would work to win the state for the PDP in the next election to hold there.

FFK Warns Buhari Over Niger Delta Militants

Chieftain of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former aviation minister, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, has raised alarm that Nigeria will disintegrate if President Muhammadu Buhari directs military to tackle the Niger Delta militancy.

Writing through his Facebook account, the PDP politician reacting to the report on the CNN that “the Nigerian government is preparing troops for a crackdown in the Niger Delta if peace talks fail.”

FFK writes: “This is sad and ominous. As United States Senator Ted Cruz once said “the light of truth is stronger than the terror of darkness”.

“It follows that the biggest mistake that the Buhari administration can possibly make is to attempt to “crack down” on the Niger Delta and kill innocent civilians.

“If this ever happens, for whatever reason, it will set off a chain of events that will lead to the end of Nigeria as we know it.

“Nigeria will disintegrate before Buhari’s very eyes if any more innocent blood is shed and if the towns, creeks and villages of the oil-producing states are shelled and reduced to rubble.

“The cause of the people of the Niger Delta, and indeed that of the Igbo people of the eastern states, is just and their struggles and aspirations are legitimate and reasonable.

“Self-detetmination is a right. It is a concept and principle that is universally accepted and that has the backing of international law.

“You do not threaten and bomb those that seek to exercise that right: you treat them with respect, decency and decorum and attempt to persuade them to stay.

“This is a point that is lost on President Buhari and those around him. The Avengers are not Boko Haram: taking them on in the field of battle would be a monumental error.”

PDP CRISIS: Sheriff’s Faction Courts Jonathan

Senator Modu Sherrif's faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has said that it had contacted former President Goodluck Jonathan with a view to intervening in the current leadership crisis bedeviling the party, noting that the former leader was disposed to resolving the problem.

Disclosing this in an exclusive chat with Vanguard recently in Abuja, Dr. Cairo Ojugbo, a former South-South Deputy National Chairman of the party, described the ex-President, whose disposition on the issue had been vague, as having the wisdom needed to resolve the festering impasse over the party’s national leadership.

Ojugbo when asked if his faction had met with Jonathan, he said: “Yes, the immediate past President is from my zone, the South-South and he is one of my leaders, I respect him, I love his candor. I love him as a human being and yes I have been in contact with him and he is also equally looking for a balanced position. He is man that every Nigerian loves.”

“What Sheriff has said and he has repeated it before everybody, is let Makarfi and his group step down. I will step down and will join and nominate persons to conduct the convention which is what a gentleman can do. And now he said look anybody who goes to Port Harcourt is on his own because he knows what the Emperor of Ikwere would do,” he added.

PDP National Convention: Dokpesi Has Not Step Down For Anybody

The media team of the leading aspirant for the chairmanship position of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, High Chief Raymond Dokpesi has rubbished report that the media mogul has stepped down for Lagos politician, Chief Olabode George.

"High Chief Dokpesi is busy meeting the delegates and outlining his programmes for the reformation and rebuilding of the PDP. He is not considering stepping down for anyone as he is widely accepted by delegates across the country. He remains the candidate to beat".

"As at noon of Saturday, 30th July, we have visited all the states in the Southern region, except Ekiti, which we are heading to now. We will be meeting delegates from the Northern region as from Sunday so High Chief Dokpesi is committed to the campaign and he is confident that he will win by the grace of God and the support of the delegates," reads the statement.

Remove, Probe Justice Okon Abang For Judicial Rascality – PDP Youths Beg NJC

Following the ruling of Justice Okon Abang, which sacked the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Caretaker Committee led by Senator Ahmed Makarfi, the National Coordinator of Peoples Democratic Party National Youth Forum, PDPNYF, Usman Austin, have called for the removal of the Federal High Court judge.

The youths urged the National Judicial Council, NJC, to as a matter of “urgency” remove the judge and further “probe him for judicial rascality.”

PDPNYF, while reacting to the pronouncement of the judge in a statement said, “The judiciary must not be a place where anyone runs into and hide his misdeed, it is now clear that justice Okon Abang has turn his own arm of judiciary to be a rubber stamp for anyone who can afford the bid.

“We ask all concern sundries to wave into this judicial rascality exhibited by justice Okon Abang before it eats deep into the marrows of our democracy, he is not only a threat to democracy but also a threat to human right and stain to the bench.

“PDP is a family and each time it has internal misunderstanding the said justice Okon Abang dives in to set fire on a fresh wood, it is alarming how much interest he picks on matter that concerns the PDP.

“The manner and mode in which judgements are obtained from justice Okon Abang is an abuse to constitutional rights… it is very unfortunate, the same he did in the Abia governorship election case. We totally say no to this act of using his office to stain the countries judiciary and making it a laughing stock.

“We therefore call on the National judicial council to as a matter of urgency remove Justice Okon Abang and further probe his ill judicial rascality and constitutional doctoration to save our judiciary as well democracy.

“The PDP youth are as a matter of urgency call on concerned advisory bodies like President Gooduck Jonathan to come into this lingering matter and save this party from the hands of scoundrels who seek to shortchange it for their self interest.”

Metuh Distances Self From Sheriff’s Court Action Seeking To Stop PDP’s National Convention

Chief Olisa Metuh, former Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, National Publicity Secretary, has distanced himself from a legal action aimed at preventing the party from conducting its national convention scheduled for August 17.

Sen Ali Modu Sheriff, the factional Chairman of the PDP,  alongside Chief Olisa Metuh and other principal officers of the party, had reportedly instituted a legal proceedings at the Federal High Court, Abuja seeking to stop the convention from taking place, leading to Justice Abang sacking the party’s Caretaker Committee, led by Sen Ahmed Makarfi.

Members of the Sheriff’s faction that filed the interlocutory suit before the Justice Okon Abang court include: the National Publicity Secretary of the party Olisah Metu, Wale Oladapo (National Secretary), Dennis Alonge-Niyi (Deputy National Youth Leader), Alhaji Bashir Maidugu (Deputy National Legal Adviser), Mrs. Hanatu Ulam (Deputy National Women Leader), Alhaji Lawa Dutsima Anchi (Deputy National Auditor), and Chief Okey Nnadozie (Deputy National Organising Secretary.

Metuh, who is currently facing charges for allegedly receiving the sum of N400m from former National Security Adviser, Col Sambo Dasuki(rtd),.

The former National Publicity Secretary in a statement issued yesterday however debunked reports that he is one of the plaintiffs, stressing that he should be left out of intra-party crisis and be allowed to nurse his health.

Speaking through his aide, Mr. Richard Ihediwa, Metuh said he never instructed anyone to file any such suit on his behalf.

The statement reads, “For the avoidance of doubt, Metuh has taken the pains to consult those that went to court and has been reliably informed that his name was listed in error and which they have promised to rectify accordingly.

“It is pertinent to mention that Metuh has not attended any political meeting and/or programme since his chair accident at a function at the party’s national secretariat (of the PDP ) in April wherein he aggravated his spinal cord ailment.

“Our appeal to all and sundry therefore is that Metuh at this time should be left out of intra-party controversies. His only preoccupation now remains matters concerning his health and the extant court trial.”

Court Sacks Markafi, Affirms Sheriff As PDP National Chairman

Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court in Abuja in a ruling yesterday, sacked the Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) thereby dragging the party into more crisis.

The court held that every action the Committee had taken since it emerged through a convention the party purportedly held in Port Harcourt on May 21, amounted to a nullity.

“Parties have an uncompromising duty to obey court order until it is set aside. The Lagos Division made orders on May 12 and 20, forbidding the PDP from removing the Sheriff-led Caretaker Committee. That order is still subsisting.

“Having regard to the order of the court, PDP had no lawful authority to hold the convention that led to the emergence of the Markafi-led Committee.

“The convention was unlawfully held and the Caretaker Committee was unlawfully and illegally appointed and could not take any legal decision for the PDP in view of the subsisting order of the Lagos Division of this court.

“Consequently, any action taken by the Markafi-led Committee, including the purported mandate for legal representation in this matter is hereby declared illegal.

“If the Markafi-led Caretaker Committee, as apostles of impunity, missed their way to the Port Harcourt division of this court, that court could not have conveniently assumed jurisdiction to set aside the earlier decision of the Lagos Division.

“I hold that the Port Harcourt division of this court cannot make an order to neutralise the potency of the Lagos Division of this court dated 12 and 20 May“.

He warned politicians not to cause disaffection among judges of the High Court, saying “the culture of impunity must stop in this country”.

“Ali Modu Sheriff is the National Chairman of the PDP. Any decision not taken by the Sheriff-led Committee is not binding on the PDP”.

National Convention: ‘Dokpesi’s Chairmanship Will Help PDP Take Over Power In 2019’

The National Coordinator, Concerned PDP Youth Network, CPYN, Hon. Uchechukwu Chukwuma have thrown their support for High Chief Raymond Dokpesi as the party’s National Chairman, saying his emergence will see the PDP take back power from the ruling All Progressives Congress in 2019.

Chukwuma said youths in the party made critical assessment of the candidates vying for the position and concluded to support Dokpesi.

According to him, Dokpesi has the quality of integrity and transparency. "We believe he would resuscitate the party and reconcile every aggrieved members, thereby repositioning the PDP to take back the reins of power from the All Progressives Congress, APC, in 2019.

He said: “As major stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and have contributed enormously to the survival, sustenance, growth and expansion of Africa’s largest party. Today, we the youths of this great party declare ahead of the party’s National Convention on August 17, 2016, at Port Harcourt, Rivers State, that we have unanimously agreed to come together to officially endorse the Pillar, Mover and Beacon of Light of our great party, High Chief Raymond Dokpesi, CFR, as the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

My Cousin, Godwin Obaseki Cannot Be Trusted — Pedro Obaseki

Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, the PDP governorship candidate, has commended Dr. Don Pedro Obaseki, the Accord governorship hopeful, for what he described as ‘’uncommon courage” of putting on hold his governorship ambition and collapsing his structure within the PDP.

Dr. Pedro Obaseki, a cousin of the APC candidate, Godwin Obaseki, said he had to step down his ambition and endorse Ize-Iyamu because he realised that the PDP governorship candidate is the ‘’best candidate” for the election, describing Governor Oshiomhole and his cousin as unworthy of the people’s trust.

Pedro, who was received by Ize-Iyamu was an APC governorship aspirant before his failed move to Accord, was quoted as describing as shocking, what he termed as ‘betrayal of trust’ on the part of his elder cousin, Godwin Obaseki.

Pedro, who narrated his experience in the hands of the Economic Team leader of the outgoing government of Edo State, said that his ambition and programmes for Edo State tallied with that of Ize-Iyamu.

‘’I will rather support my brother, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu than go with Governor Adams Oshiomhole’s puppet candidate who is still going about with pampers”, Dr. Pedro Obaseki stated.

‘’I will rather support Pastor Ize-Iyamu, who represents the collective aspiration of Edo people than support Godwin Obaseki, who is being promoted by external political and economic investors.”

He said that he would join the PDP candidate’s campaign team as from Monday, promising to expose the ‘’sins” of Oshimohle and his brother to the people of Edo State in the next few days.

Ekweremandu’s Seat Threatened — Okorocha

Chief Rochas Okorocha, the Imo State Governor, says “Ike Ekweremadu’s seat as Deputy Senate President, is now threatened, with the emergence of Benjamin Uwajumogu in the last senatorial re-run election in the state.”

An obviously joyous Okorocha said, “The position of Senator Ike Ekweremadu as the Deputy Senate President is at the moment under heavy threat because in no distant time, the APC Senator in waiting from Imo State, Benjamins Uwajumogu, will take over the seat on the ground that it is an aberration that a PDP senator from the South-East is Deputy to an APC Senate President because, before now, APC could not produce a senator from the South-East zone".

Okorocha on a wild goose chase 

 

Reacting to Okorocha's statement, the Office of the Deputy President of the Senate in a statement issued by the Special Adviser (Media) to the Deputy President of the Senate, said it would have “allowed the governor to continue to wallow in his delusions and wild claims, but, considering the fact that this is the second consecutive statement by the governor in one week wherein he attempted to impugn the integrity and democratic credentials of the Office and person of the Deputy President of the Senate, we are being compelled to set the record straight.

“The Deputy President of the Senate visited Imo State for the last time in 2015. PDP Wins Kogi East Re-run Election

AVM Isaac Alfa, a former Chief of Air Staff, of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, was yesterday declared winner of Kogi East Senatorial re-run election held on Saturday with 57,575 votes to defeat five other candidates, although the All Progressives Congress, APC, did not participate in the election due to an Appeal Court judgment banning it from fielding a candidate.

The Returning Officer, Professor Lucky Ovwhasa, while announcing Alfa winner of the Kogi East re-run, said candidates of ACPN, KOWA, MPPP, UPP and the Labour Party scored 1,793, 888, 498, 349 and 11,908 votes, respectively.
