SCORES FEARED DEAD AS BIFRA'S ANNIVERSARY TURN BLOODY

The demonstration in commemoration of the May 30, 1967 declaration of the sovereign state of Biafra by late Dim Emeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, allegedly turned bloody yesterday as soldiers and protesters clashed at Nkpor, Anambra State and Delta State.

Several persons including a soldier were allegedly killed during the clash in Onitsha, Anambra.
In Delta, the clash occurred when a fight broke out between policemen and some people suspected to be MASSOB in Asaba.
The incident occurred along Anwai Road in the city when MASSOB members were marching to demand independence for a proposed separatist Biafra.
According to eyewitnesses, those injured in the fracas, including policemen, were taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba for treatment.
Meanwhile, Police in Imo say they have arrested 17 members of MASSOB for holding a road show in commemoration of 49th anniversary of Biafra.
Biafra, officially the Republic of Biafra, was a secessionist state in eastern Nigeria that existed from the 30th of May 1966, to January 1970.
