BREAKING NEWS: PRESIDENT BUHARI TO VISIT NIGER DELTA

President Muhammadu Buhari
Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari will on Thursday visit the Niger Delta region.
This will be the first time the Nigerian leader will make the trip to the region since taking office a year ago.

Over the past few weeks, the oil rich region has been rocked by a series of attacks on oil and gas facilities.
A militant group called Niger Delta Avengers has claimed responsibility for the attacks.
President Buhari’s visit was announced as the Niger Delta Avengers militant group issued a warning to oil firms in the southern region that their “facilities and personnel will bear the brunt of our fury,” according to a statement.
Buhari, on Sunday said the government would hold talks with leaders in Nigeria’s main oil-producing region to address their grievances, in a bid to stop a surge in pipeline attacks.
During his visit to the region, Buhari will stop at Ogoniland to launch a much-delayed programme to clean up areas heavily polluted by oil spills, a government official told Reuters.
