In preparation of the celebration of Democracy day and
celebration of Delta State Governor, Senator, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa’s
one year in office by the Delta State Government, the Honorable Commissioner
for Environment, Hon Barr. John Nani has directed the State Sanitation Taskforce
chairman, Mr. Kingsley Iweka Odiaka and his team to clear all debris and
grasses along the Government House entrance, starting from Summit junction
through Anwai Road, Asaba, Delta State, on Thursday.
The Sanitation Taskforce Chairman, who was accompanied by representatives
of the State Beautification Team and Waste Management Team, in collaboration
with the Ministry of Environment, observed that the sanitation exercise will be
continually done in order to ensure cleanliness in the state.
He told our reporter that the exercise has come to stay and
will not be halted at any point in time. He said; “The task force has come to
stay and as the Taskforce Chairman, I am assuring you, with the backing of the
Honorable Commissioner for Environment, Hon Barr. John Nani, the exercise will not
stop.”
However, Mr. Kingsley strongly warned traders and hawkers
that henceforth, the Taskforce, in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force,
will begin to arrest anyone caught littering the Government House Road.
He banned trading and hawking along the Government House
Road from Summit junction to the Government House, just as the Taskforce team,
in collaboration with the Beatification Office, maintained sanity along Okpanam
Road, Interboa and DBS Road by removing Sign posts, billboards and other unwanted elements placed on the median of roads in
the state.
While expressing his team’s unflinching support towards the sanitation exercise,
the Personal Assistant to the Executive Assistant on Beautification, Barr.
Ejiro Nomuoja emphasized that anyone caught putting up posters indiscriminately
will be arrested and fined N10, 000.
He said: “The Beautification Team have a mini taskforce that
we use to evacuate traders trading on the government setback. Last week, the
flyover bridge was rid with posters but the Beautification Taskforce were able to
get rid of all the posters and if you notice, we have put up a warning that anyone
caught putting up posters will pay a fine of N10, 000.”
