SARAKI - MY TRIAL WILL NOT INTERRUPT SENATE PROCEEDINGS

Senate President Bukola Saraki
The President of the Nigerian Senate, Bukola Saraki, has said his trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal will not interrupt Senate proceedings.
The statement was issued by Saraki’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu in Abuja.

Saraki’s trial resumed at the Code of Conduct tribunal on Monday.
The Senate President is facing a 13-count charge of false declaration of asset while he was governor of Kwara state.
He has since pled not guilty to the charges.
Chairman of the tribunal, Danladi Umar said the trial would be held daily from 10 a.m to 6 p.m till the conclusion of the case.
The statement said: “It would be recalled that at the preliminary stage of the trial, senators had always accompanied the Senate president to the tribunal each time the case came up for hearing."
It added that the legislative body would not be affected by the absence of any of the principal officers.
The Senate President had lost his appeals to stop the trial at the Federal High Court, the Appeal court and Supreme Court.
At the hearing on Monday, a detective of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Michael Wetkas, narrated how Saraki, failed to declare all of his assets at the Code Of Conduct Bureau, TV360 reported.
Wetkas said Saraki bought more than one property from a presidential implementation committee on landed property, but told the CCT about only one of the Purchase.
Wetkas said the additional purchase two properties contravened the rules.
