Women-protesting
The public presentation of a one-month media monitoring report on the portrayal and reportage of women and girls rights issues held at the International Press Centre earlier in the week. A lot of saddening thing was brought to light.

The report used six newspapers – The Punch, The Nation, The Guardian, Vanguard, Daily Trust and Daily Sun – for its analysis.

These are 6 facts from the report as expatiated on by the Assistant Director (News) Voice of Nigeria Mrs. Ugonma Coke

1. Issues of rape are just being reported without a follow-up on how the accused is being punished to serve as a lesson to others who may also have the intention of doing such.

2. When it comes to women’s issues, selective reports take center stage.

3. Stories concerning women are mostly found in the entertainment and showbiz sections

4. Spaces allocated to women are limited yet men are quoted on women -focused issues allocated to women were not limited to women, as men still preferred to be quoted as sources over women.

5. Reports advocating gender balance is low.

6. Women are locked up in stereotypes and denied their rights.
