ESE ORURU'S ABDUCTOR, YUNUSA DAHIRU CHARGED WITH ABDUCTION, ILLICIT SEX

The alleged abductor of Ese Oruru, the 14-year-old girl from Bayelsa state, Yunusa Dahiru was on Tuesday, March 8, arraigned in court.

Yunusa was arraigned before the Federal High Court sitting in Yenagoa on a five count charge of abduction, illicit sex, unlawful canal knowledge, among others.

Yunusa is alleged to have abducted Ese from her home in Bayelsa 8-months ago, and subsequently took her to his home in Kano, where he forcefully converted her to Islam and married her.

Festus Keyamo, a popular Nigerian lawyer and human rights activist, has reacted to the alleged abduction of 14-year-old Ese Oruru by 18-year-old Yunusa.

The girl who was abducted last year from Bayelsa to Kano for forceful marriage and conversion to Islam was released on Monday, February 29.

The Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, gave a directive Monday afternoon to the Commissioner of Police, Kano State, Mohammed Katsine to liase with the State’s Emirate Council and relevant persons, to ensure the rescue of kidnapped 14-year old Ese Oruru.

The pathetic story of how 14-year-old Ese Oruru, who was in August 2015, allegedly abducted in Opolo, Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, by one Yunusa, who hails from Kano, has continued to elicit outrage on social media among Nigerians.

According to reports, Ese was 13 as at the time of her alleged abduction when she was taken to Kano, by Yunusa, where he "converted" her to Islam and married her.
