Nigeria’s Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has officially launched the Ogoniland clean up programme.
The United Nation Environmental Programme, UNEP had recommended the clean up of the heavily polluted region in a report in 2011.
President Buhari was scheduled to officially unveil the clean up programme, however he cancelled his visit to the region at the eleventh hour.
The President’s visit to the region may have made significant impact following a wave of attacks by militants on oil and facilities in the region.
