AIR VICE MARSHALL LANDS IN JAIL OVER N166M GIFT



Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has remanded a Chief of Training and Operations of the Nigerian Air Force, Air Vice-Marshal Olutayo Oguntoyinbo.

Oguntoyinbo is accused of accepting N166m gift from a "contractor with the Nigerian Air Force.
Justice Olukayode Adeniyi on Thursday ordered the Air Force Chief to remain in jail after he pleaded not guilty to the charge leveled against him.
The hearing of his bail application has been slated for June 6.
Air Vice-Marshal Oguntoyinbo was charged by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
He allegedly received the gift from the contractor, Société D’ Equipments Internationaux Nigeria Limited, in the course of performing his official duty.
The alleged offence, according to Tv360 news, was said to be contrary to section 17(a) of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission Act and punishable under section 17(c) of the same Act.
The anti-graft agency alleged that the defendant received the N166m gift from  the contractor, while serving as the Chief of Training and Operations of the Nigerian Air Force‎.
Oguntoyinbo allegedly accepted the gift from the contractor through the account of his company, Spaceweb Integrated Services Limited, kept with Wema Bank Plc.
