Dear
Nigerians, the journey to national development is neither a day’s job nor a
man’s responsibility. The path to the great Nigeria we all are asking
comprehends you and me without any exception. Either you are young or old, big
or small, a scholar or non-educated, we all have the responsibility of making
Nigeria a Great country which the future generations will so gladly protect.
The endemic
fuel scarcity in the country has continued to make life extremely difficult for
millions of Nigerians. And as it has always been, the masses are the ones
bearing the most of the brunt emanating from this dreadful scourge.
Sadly, the
ones enjoying our tax monies and the sweat of the masses, popularly known as
politicians in this part of the world, seem to be having a great time, thereby, making
life even more difficult for the people at the grassroots. And because they have
too much of stolen money lying dormant in their vaults, they easily go along
with every difficult situation (for the masses only) without feeling a pinch.
Yesterday, I
was listening to a radio program and a man called in from Ajah, Lagos State,
complaining bitterly about how politicians ostentatiously and heartlessly intimidate
the masses with their stolen money. How they openly bribe petrol attendants to
get fuel at a ridiculous price which the people waiting for hours on the queue
cannot afford to pay. The caller began his narrative thereafter, and, according
to him, this unnamed politician comes to the filling station every three days
since this fuel dearth began with three big drums to get fuel while the sullen crowds
on the queue gloomily and grumblingly mutter disapproval of this egoistic
habit. What’s worse is, apart from the fact that this unfeeling politician
purchases his fuel at an unreasonable amount with three big drums, he is so
‘magnanimous’ that he still dashes petrol attendants no less than 3000Naira
after paying 250Naira as initial fuel price. What a man!
This politician
is just one among the many perpetrators of such untoward act in a bastardized
country like ours.
However,
posterity will judge everyone as a bunch of failures should we all fail to put
a stop to the callousness of these egoistic and apathetical bastards of our
country.
The intimidation of innocent and helpless Nigerians has been
going on for too long and this is the point where the truly patriotic Nigerians
must come together to incapacitate these politicians who have continued to
throw their weight about oppressing the masses.
When politicians fail to understand that - the feeling of commiseration is the
beginning of humanity; the feeling of shame and dislike is the beginning of
righteousness; the feeling of deference and compliance is the beginning of
propriety; and the feeling of right or wrong is the beginning of wisdom,
then it is obvious that their sense of dignity has been eroded and of no use
are people of such caliber in our society.
NIGERIANS, never fail to exercise your right to
freedom of expression where it is most needed. Never fail to stand for a man
who is being vilified for saying the truth. Never fail to stand by that one man
among the lot who has courageously stood to fight on your behalf in espousing
what is true and just.
A true Nigerian is
fearless, selfless, kind-hearted, and unconditionally patriotic. Don yourself
in the garment of a TRUE NIGERIAN and join the very few REAL NIGERIANS willing
to devoid our nation of these political thieves in order for our nation to burgeon
greatly.
