COURT REJECTS BADEH'S APPLICATION TO STOP TRIAL

The Federal High Court in Abuja has thrown out the application filed by Nigeria’s former defence chief, Alex Badeh seeking to stop his corruption trial.

Badeh is currently facing a 10-count charge for crimes bordering on money laundering and has been granted bail for the sum of N2bn.

At the resumed hearing on Wednesday, Counsel to Badeh, Samuel Zibiri, told the court that he had filed an application to challenge the jurisdiction of the court and the validity of the charges against his client.

He said the charges were misleading and asked the judge to grant him the opportunity to address the court or move his application.

Counsel to the FG, Rotimi Jacobs however opposed the motion urging the court to dismiss the application.

He accused the defense lawyer of planning to frustrate the trial.

The judge in his ruling dismissed the application and asked the prosecution to open its case.
