The Lagos State Government has inaugurated a committee to reorganize the State’s Building Control Agency.
Governor Akinwunmi Ambode had on Monday sacked the General Manager of the State’s Building Control Agency, Adeigbe Olushola following the collapse of a building in the state, which killed 34 people.
The governor also approved the dismissal of the head of inspection and quality control in the agency, Adeoye Thomas Adeyemi, and the zonal district officer in the agency, Dosunmu Gbadebo.
All three officials were sacked after being found guilty of negligence of their duty.
Ambode has now inaugurated a committee to help the agency become more effective.
The committee which was inaugurated at the State House on Wednesday is chaired by Bunmi Ajayi with Lape Kilanko as Secretary.
Oreoluwa Fadayomi and Yetunde Ajayi are the other members of the committee.
At least 34 people were confirmed dead, and 13 others rescued alive after the building which was still under construction collapsed last Tuesday.
The building was being constructed by Lekki Worldwide Estate Limited
Lagos State officials say preliminary findings show that the collapsed building exceeded the number of floors approved by authorities.
Ambode has also ordered occupants in all the houses that had been built by Lekki Gardens to vacate their apartments.
An integrity test is expected to be carried out on the buildings to ascertain their condition.
