OWERRI MONARCHS REACTS TO KIDNAP OF COLLEAGUE

Owerri monarchs react to kidnap of colleague

Traditional rulers from Owerri geo-political zone yesterday poured deadly curses on the hoodlums, who kidnapped the royal father of Nguru Nweafor community in Aboh Mbaise local government of Imo State, Eze Oswald O. Anyanwu.

The aggrieved royal fathers moved in groups to several road junctions in and around Owerri municipality, where they placed the curses before speaking to Vanguard.

According to the Head of Traditional Institutions in Owerri Zone, Eze Chidume Okoro, the royal fathers received the news of the abduction of their brother traditional ruler with shock.

“The current kidnapping of Eze Oswald O. Anyanwu adds to the growing list of monarchs abducted in the state, in the past few years, in what now looks like a declaration of war against the revered traditional institution and the foundation of our cultural heritage”, Eze Okoro said.

While saying that Owerri monarchs were united in the condemnation of the dastardly act, the Owerri Zonal royal fathers also reasoned that the kidnapping of traditional rulers “is not only an abomination but also desecrates the traditional institution.

“Handcuffing, blindfolding and throwing the custodians of our tradition and cultural heritage into car booths, for whatever purpose, is dastardly and an abomination,” Eze Okoro said.

The royal father noted that “this developing phenomenon and recurring acts of humiliation, desecration and abomination against Ndieze in Igboland is obviously responsible for the denials, failures and rejection of Igbo at various levels of our society.”

The monarchs equally noted that despite the strategic programmes of the security agencies to make Imo safe for all, the kidnappers have turned their arsenals against the royal institution, with a view to causing confusion and fear in the land.

“We hereby issue an ultimatum to release Eze Oswald O. Anyanwu  within 48 hours  or face an unending calamity in their lives and their lineage from the source of power of monarchs”, Eze Okoro said.

Reacting to the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr. Andrew Enwerem, said that there was no report on whether the royal father has been released or not.

“The security agencies are still sniffing all the nooks and crannies for his release and possible arrest of the perpetrators,” the PPRO said.
