The spokesman of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olisa Metuh has been handcuffed for the third time at one of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) high court, Abuja.

Metuh was granted bail in the sum N300m and two sureties in like sum for tearing up his statement. He arrived at the court at 10.45am handcuffed and accompanied by officers of the Nigeria Prison Service, but the restraints were removed just before he entered the court room.

While, Sylvanus Tahir, counsel to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, did not object to the bail application, he asked the court to grant Metuh bail on terms that would make him present in court for his trial.

Metuh was arraigned for allegedly attempting at the office of the EFCC.

The defense counsel, Chris Uche, asked the court to exercise its discretion in granting the accused bail.

My lord, our humble application is that discretion be exercised in granting my client, a legal practitioner who no doubts understands the liberty of being granted bail,” Uche said.

The PDP spokesman laughed as he walked out of the courtroom free on bail, saying about his case “you can see the handwriting on the wall.”

The anti-graft agency had on January 21, Thursday arraigned him before Ishaq Bello of the FCT high court for charges relating to destruction of evidence.

The PDP’s spokesperson is also facing a seven-count charge of money laundering to the tune of N400m at the federal high court, Abuja.

Metuh is among those facing criminal charges for supposed complicity in the $2.1bn arms procurement scandal.

The politician has pleaded not guilty to the charge of money laundering, and has alleged that the government is trying to break him for his critical stance on the President Muhammadu Buhari government.

  1. This is simply a political fight, yes Metuh should be jailed for his crime, what about Dasuki, has he ever been taken taken to court in handcuffs? The man who shared the $2.1billion is been carried in an air conditioned bus to court. We are watching.
