EKWEREMADU SAYS PROCUREMENT OF VEHICLES IS A NECESSARY EXPENDITURE

Deputy Senate President, Chief Ike Ekweremadu, has described the proposed N4.7Billion for the procurement of vehicles for the lawmakers as “a necessary expenditure.”

According to Vanguard, Senator Ekweremadu linked the huge cost of procuring vehicles for the senate committees on the prevailing exchange rate for the United States' dollar.

“It is an indisputable fact that the exchange rate for the dollar has hit the skies in these days and age and this has adversely affected every other commodity in the country,” Ekweremadu said.

Ekweremadu said it was not unusual for Nigerians to blame the ruling party, APC, for the outcome of what  they saw as abnormal. He further said the procurement will enable members of the senate committees to carry out their duties efficiently.

“It is not a crime to buy vehicles for the use of Senate committees. This would enable  members of the various committees to carry out their assignments without hitches,” He said.

Meanwhile, President Buhari, during his maiden media chat on December 30, 2015, expressed strong disapproval for such plan to procure vehicles at a time when the country is facing serious economic challenges.
