BREAKING: FULANI HERDSMEN KILL PLATEAU KING, DRIVER

A first class traditional ruler in Plateau State, the Saf Ron Kulere, and Chairman of Bokkos Traditional Rulers’ Council, Sir Lazarus Agai, has been murdered by suspected herdsmen.

Agai who was the traditional ruler of Bokkos, the home town of a former governor of the state, Chief Joshua Dariye, was killed while returning from his farm in Sha, along with his driver.

The member representing Bokkos Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Mr. Sunday Muchen confirming the incident to Punch said the monarch was killed on Monday by unknown gunmen.

Details of the incident remained sketchy as of the time of filing this report.

Army kills 11 bandits, cattle rustlers in Borno


Nigerian Army in a statement said its troops in training exercise code named “Exercise Harbin Kunama”, to mark the 2016 NADCEL, on patrol of the forests in Zamfara State, killed 11 armed bandits and cattle rustlers.

A statement from Army headquarters said: “Troops of 223 Battalion while on patrol encountered armed bandits at Madaka village, Maru Local Government Area in which they killed 9 armed bandits and recovered 3 AK-47 rifles, 2 AK-47 rifle magazines, 3 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition, 1 machete and 24 motorcycles. Similarly, local vigilantes at ‘Yargada village, Gusau Local Government Area apprehended a fleeing suspected armed bandit and handed him over to troops deployed at Magami.

“Another team also carried out raids on cattle rustlers and armed bandits' camps at Gidan Mai Jaja in Dansadau general area. Here, the rustlers and armed bandits fled on sighting the approaching troops abandoning 85 cows, 37 sheep and a donkey.

''Similarly, another patrol team also carried out a raid on armed bandits and cattle rustlers' camp at Gobirawan Kwacha where they killed 2 armed bandits and recovered a machete.

“Also, in a Boko Haram clearance operation, a patrol team of 157 Task Force Battalion, 7 Brigade, ambushed and killed a Boko Haram terrorist spy at Barwati village, Kukawa Local Government Area.

''The insurgent who was on reconnaissance mission to infiltrate the troops’ position, was killed while trying to gain entry into military location. The team recovered 1 AK-47 rifle, 59 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition, one 40mm x 46mm BGL2 grenade, 1 bandolier and 3 AK-47 rifle magazines from him. Troops have intensified vigilance and a high level of alertness as they continued with efforts of clearing the remnants of the Boko Haram terrorists in their area of responsibility.''

SUSPECTED HERDSMEN RAID TARABA VILLAGES, KILL 44

At least 44 people were killed in a series of attacks by suspected herdsmen on villages in Gassaka and Bali local government areas of Taraba state.

Sylvanus Giwa, senior special assistant to the governor on media and publicity, confirmed this in a statement he issued on Tuesday.

The statement said 20 persons were killed in Angai village, nine in Maisuma, eight in Dorei and seven in Fali.

BREAKING: FULANI HERDSMEN RAID VILLAGES IN TARABA, 'SLAUGHTERING AND BURNING VILLAGERS ALIVE' (VIEWERS DISCRETION)



Fulani herdsmen allegedly attacked four villages in Gashaka local government area of Taraba state, on Monday, April 11.

According to a Facebook user, Bako Benjamin, the herdsmen destroyed farmlands and burnt villagers alive in the LGA located in Taraba central.

BUHARI SAYS FULANI HERDSMEN ATTACKS WILL SOON BE OVER



After ceaseless calls for him to weigh-in on the menace of Fulani herdsmen, President Muhammadu Buhari has assured Nigerians that the hostile tension between the pastorals and local farmers will soon be over, stressing that several plans have been put in motion by the Federal Government to tackle the hostility.

TRAGIC! FULANI HERDSMEN BUTCHERS FARMER IN OKADA



Suspected Fulani herdsmen in Okada, headquarters of Ovia North East local government area of Edo state yesterday murdered a farmer simply identified as Alex.

Alex, 64, was brutally butchered and his remains were found in a bush near his farm by a search party led by his younger brother.

His wife, Margaret, pointed accusing fingers at the Fulani herdsmen in the area, saying her husband had been complaining about their activities on his farm.

According to her, “They have killed my husband and left me to care for the children. The people that went there said they saw the Fulani people’s sandals in the place.”

According to This day, a youth in the community who claimed to follow policemen to the scene said, “I followed policemen and the family to the scene. There were cuts all over his body. They cut his neck and stabbed him in the stomach.”

The youth said they went to the Fulani camp and discovered that all the inhabitants had disappeared.

Confirming the killing, Omosede Igbinedion, the member representing Ovia Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives described the killing as “another tragedy that has become a common occurrence in today’s Nigeria.”

Omosede who hails from Okada community urged the State Commisoner of Police to carry out an immediate full scale investigation with a view to bringing the perpetrators to book.

She said: “I received with both shock and horror, the dastardly act perpetrated by someone who can only be described as “barbaric, inhumane and animalistic.

“We will not sit back and allow this to continue. I will bring the attention of the Federal Government to this gruesome murder which was allegedly carried out by Fulani Herdsmen.

“It is expected that these herdsmen co-exist with the indigenous people of Okada and Ovia in a dignified manner. They have no right over another man’s farmland furthermore killing a man in cold blood.

“Every citizen of Nigeria should feel protected under the law. My heart goes out to the family of the deceased. I can only imagine what they must be going through at this moment in time.”
