You can easily relate to the phrase ''good-bye is the saddest word" when you lose someone dearest to you.

The body of Mama Susan Uche Igwebuike, aged 94, was finally laid to rest on Saturday, 4th June 2016 at the Igwebuike country home in Oba town, Umunede, Delta state.

The burial of the matriarch which attracted dignitaries from all over the world started with a church service at the family compound and was presided over by prophet Oliver Nweke.

During the biography reading of mama Igwebuike by Hon. Chief Frank Igwebuike (ODABEMEZE OF UMUNEDE), he described her as a 'no nonsense woman', a smart woman, and a woman who understood many languages including; Itshekiri, Urhobo and Benin. She was also fluent in Hausa, Yoruba and Igbirra languages, as well as pidgin English and many others.

At a tender age, Mama Igwebuike thrived in petty trading and was well known in her community.

In the words of Chief Frank, "at the tender age of ten, she had started making her money by selling pounded yam and soup to John Holt and U.A.C. workers situated at Umunede.

"My mother's zeal for hard work knew no bounds. In her early business years, she traded in foodstuffs, cigarettes, plates, cloths, jewelry and kerosene. She finally, in the late 40s settled for dried shrimps, 'Bonga' and crayfish."

He further lauded her courage and determination to be great even as a young woman, he said; "This Amazon of a woman at 25 years before I was born, she had built her first house with corrugated iron roof which was very rare then," and ended the biography, saying, "Mama was the best mother I will no longer have. Mama goodnight." just as he walked back to his seat with uncontrallable tears in his eyes.

Prophet Oliver during his sermon said the family must take solace in the fact that mama is now with God. He explained that there is a time for everything: a time when mama was born and a time to die. He stressed that personally, he would have loved to see mama live above a hundred years old but God always knows the right time for everything.

His Royal Highness, Dr. Ezeagwu Ezenweah 1, the Agadagidi of Umunede kingdom, paid a condolence visit to the family alongside other prominent dignitaries including Hon. Tony Elekeokwuri, member representing Ika North East at the Delta state House of Assembly, Chief Comrade Philip, chairman NURTW, Delta state, Agboma Chuks, S.A. to the Governor on community matters, Mr. Felix M.O. Osiso, Chief Edwin Osihon, and many more.

Speaking exclusively to KARIFEST, Chief Frank Igwebuike as the patriarch of the Igwebuike family, home and abroad, used the medium to thank everybody who came to celebrate the life of his mother, he said "I wish to thank those who have come from all over Nigeria, those from USA, UK, Germany, Japan, and different parts of the world to bury my mother, I thank everybody for coming. I am happy I stand tall to bury my mother."

He further said, "it would have been a monumental problem if my mother had buried me. The family is united. They are together. I believe the family if united, can survive anything," he concluded.

Adviser Joe Morgan and his melodious band provided succour through music, just as family and friends thronged the centre stage dancing their sorrow away including Chief Tony Igwebuike (EKELEM-OBI OF UMUNEDE), HRH. Dr. Ezeagwu Ezenweah 1, amongst others.

In his tribute to his mother, Chief Tony said, "My mother was God sent, she was my jewel of inestimable value, rest in peace Mama".

The Matriarch, Susan Uche Igwebuike was laid to rest at about 12.30pm on Saturday.
