BREAKING: KASICH QUITS US PRESIDENTIAL RACE

John Kasich is suspending his bid for the White House, NBC News is reporting.

He will make an announcement about his campaign at 5 p.m. on Wednesday in Columbus, Ohio, his campaign said.

The Ohio governor had long been mathematically eliminated from securing enough delegates to win the nomination on first ballot. But with many in the GOP strongly opposed to Donald Trump and Ted Cruz, Kasich forged ahead, hoping he could emerge from the ashes of a contested convention.

However, Trump’s victory on Tuesday in Indiana has put the businessman on track to secure the 1,237 delegates he would to clinch the nomination, leaving Kasich without a path to victory.
