DPR takes CSR programme to women in Lagos

The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) has reaffirmed its commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility, (CSR) as it partnered Lakeshore Cancer Centre (LCC) to offer free screening to 100 women in Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State.


Director, Public Affairs, DPR Mrs. Dorothy Bassey, while speaking at the event, said the exercise was part of the agency's plan to give back to the society.

“We felt we needed to contribute a little bit to the society. So staff of the department brought together their personal funds to contribute to the screening of women in Eti-Osa in conjunction with LCC,” she said.

She noted that there had been series of campaigns, awareness and lectures before now to coordinate women within the locality.

"LCC has traditionally over the years been interactive with the women in this locality. We felt we needed to come on board and join hands with them.

“Cancer respects no age or gender, we want to spread the message by doing something positive to impact the women, she said.

She further stated that early detection is the key to cancer cure.

"cancer can be managed as long as it is detected in its early stage. This initiative is to bring the information to the grassroots.

“Early screening does save lives and that is why we are here in numbers. We did not just send over the funds, we are here to identify with the women, she said.

Speaking on the continuity of the exercise, she disclosed that the exercise was the maiden edition and would continue as results starts manifesting.

“This initiative came solely from the staff of DPR; there would be a follow-up with the guidance of LCC with our medical team to help with the formalities and working relationships to manage the women who may come back with positive result. Looking forward, we would be monitoring the progress of the screening" she added.
